"Adam - After the Fall"
by M. Genova and S. Zambelli
This particular piece of art was one of the first creations of Studio Three16. The idea for this began as a brain-storming session between us (Michael Genova and Scott Zambelli) one evening.
We were discussing the events found in the book of Genesis, with a particular focus on chapter 3. In our discussion of this chapter we began to contemplate what it meant to be fallen and what was Man like before the fall.

After much discussion, we felt a strong desire to try and capture the events of Genesis 3 as interpreted by our talents.
But, how do you capture this. We were drawn to the total shame that is experienced by Adam and Eve after the bite of the apple from the Tree of Knowledge. We knew this had to play a central role in the artwork. We decided that Michael would be responsible for the original sketches and designs while Scott would focus on building the infrastructure of Studio Three16.
The following week, when we met again, Michael brought a truly inspired rendering of Adam. It was done in colored pencil on mat board.
Once Michael had completed the initial art, Scott was able to scan it into photoshop to prepare it for final presentation.
Scott was able to digitally cut out the original art from the background and give the picture it's final lighting and enhancements. In addition to this, Scott created a background that suggests God's presence and compliments Michael's original art.
In this picture Adam is portrayed as we envisioned him in the bible. However, he is symbolic of all Mankind. To this day we (and this includes Christians too) try to hide our faces from not only God. We also try to hide them from each other. We do this by hiding behind our social statuses, the clothes we wear, and the fake smiles we wear on our faces. We do whatever we can to hide our true selves from each other...praying that if our disguises will fool our neighbors, then maybe...just maybe...we will fool God.
Michael was also able to incorporate some other symbolic elements into this piece. Laying at his feet is a skull which represents death - the direct consequence of the Sin committed in the Garden so long ago.
The good news for all of us is that the price demanded by God has been paid for us by Jesus Christ...the one man who was without Sin...the one man who did not owe on the tab created by Adam and added to by each and every generation since. This includes me and you. Jesus paid the debt for us and saved us all from death.
I know. Many of you may know people who believed in Christ and they have passed away. You may say, why did they not escape death?
The death that is spoken of is the second death. Without getting too heavy into it, the second death occurs during Judgement Day when all of us will stand before God. If you want to read more about this, check out the book of Revelation. But I must warn you...it's not a happy-go-lucky book full of warm and fuzzy feelings.
